Hopes & Fears
Piano Solo Album
09/01/2024
Maria Baptist’s new piano solo album „Hopes & Fears“ is a live recording of her Elbphilharmonie debut. Her solo cycle interweaves the dramaturgy of symphonic works with her profound improvisations to create a new sound experience. Maria Baptist’s music reveals an attitude to life of freedom and courage. In this way, her music becomes a message to be guided by hopes rather than fears.
“Maria Baptists rhapsodic, free-flowing piano style evokes Bill Evans & Keith Jarrett,” writes the legendary Downbeat Magazine, ranking the pianist and composer among the great jazz pianists of our time. Maria Baptist, on the other hand, is a wanderer between musical worlds. “She proves how transparent the line between jazz and classical music can be,” says the Berliner Morgenpost about the multi award-winning artist.
Her new album was recorded during her debut at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. “The audience celebrates the virtuoso pianist”, wrote the Hamburger Abendblatt after the premiere of “Hopes & Fears”. Maria Baptist’s piano solo cycle interweaves the grand dramaturgy of symphonic works with her profound improvisations to create a new sound experience. Between her powerful virtuosity, subtle polyphony in the spirit of Bach and her boundless lyricism, Maria Baptist’s music reveals an attitude to life of freedom and courage. In this way, her music becomes a message to be guided by hopes rather than fears.
